Our Farm

Flor de Romero

Flor de Romero is located in the Bío Bío Region, approximately 500 km south of Santiago de Chile, near Yumbel. Surrounded by forest, a vegetable garden, a small fruit orchard and next to the Laja river where our horses grow up freely in an extensive manner which strengthens their gregarious spirit with all of the benefits of this system. Permanent veterinary supervision is given as we live right there with them, always working for the care, training and wellbeing of our animals.

We have more than twenty boxes, lots of paddocks, a roundpen, a trotting lane, a horse walker, an oval canter track of one kilometer in length and many kilometers of sandy roads in 1000h of pine forests and hills, ideal conditions for training endurance horses.

From early on in our childhood our lives have been dedicated to horses, a variety of different equestrian disciplines (dressage, jumping, polo and endurance) and all the aspects of living with them. Veterinary medicine, horse breeding and sports have always been part of our lives. The dream of Flor de Romero started in Ecuador and then relocated to Chile where, in 1996, we started our first Anglo-Arabian horse project with the help of Fernando Saenz H (Haras Valdeosera) and Horacio Henriquez B (Haras Schelto FSC).

In 2003 we came to the countryside of Yumbel, built our house, some first boxes and paddocks, fixed some pastures and Flor de Romero incorporated the breeding of purebred Arabian horses which has since evolved and grown into a successful training facility for endurance horses, establishing our name as Arabian horse and Belgian Malinois guard dog breeders.

Together with an enthusiastic group of horse lovers from the area we founded the "Club de Enduro y Cabalgatas Bíobío" in 2004 and we hosted an endurance race on our land for the first time, many more have since followed. The idea of incrementing good breeding and the dispersion of the equestrian sport was always part of our goals.

Now our older son has already been starting his journey into the endurance sport together with his beloved horse FM Fagal (son of ZT Rutab and Supetar Fadia).

Fernando X Medina Guerrero advised a series of ventures related to Endurance and Arabian horses in different countries such as Chile, Argentina, Estonia, Norway, Denmark and Ecuador among others, for example the importation of the first son of Persik (Kheersik el Asrit) to Chile for Haras San Ignacio in Temuco. He has also participated in a series of international competitions either as a breeder, rider, FEI official, advisor or veterinarian for the teams of Ecuador, Chile, Estonia, Denmark and Norway, currently being the team veterinarian and chef d'équipe for the Norwegian Endurance Team since 2017.

Our Breeding

Flor de Romero, yeguas árabes, ZT Fantasybill

For us, a successful breeding program is based in good genetics, conformation and in growing up in large areas. Some of Chile's best sport horses were born in this region.

We've been very lucky to be able to buy and import a fantastic selection of broodmares, fillys and young stallions from Don Federico Zichy-Thyssen's breeding (ZT Arabians) in Argentina between 2003 and 2008. These invaluable horses form the base of our breeding and have become part of the family.

Our foals grow up within the herd, mostly free on an extensive piece of land including the two riversides of Laja River. From a very young age they learn to cross canals and rivers and get used to walk and run free in a big area.

This results in strong, healthy minded horses who are able to withstand both the harsh conditions of hot and dry summers as well as the colder and rainy winters.
